16th Street Press Release

16th Street Press Release

June 24, 2024

PRESS RELEASE June 24, 2024 Re: 16th Street Water Main Break June 14, 2024 As a result of the water main break on 16th Street there is undetermined damage to the road. We have met with INDOT and are working to proceed with a joint approach. The City of Bedford and the Redevelopment Commission passed an emergency resolution on June 18, 2024 declaring an emergency and authorizing public works project to repair 16th Street and install new water main. The Redevelopment Commission allocated funds to fund this project consisting of INDOT assessing the road and using the contractor currently still under contract for the roadway assessment, reconstruction, ADA sidewalks, and our contractor is secured to retire the current 12 inch line and 4 inch line and install a new 12 inch line with lateral services to be connected to the new 12 inch main. Due to the uncertainty until we get the roadway exposed, unfortunately a timeline is unable to be established but INDOT as well as the City are working diligently to get this project completed and hope to see movement on site early this week. If there is a way to have limited lanes open, INDOT is considering that if possible. Businesses are still open on 16th Street. Those businesses include: Ray Snapp, 1819 16th Street – enter through alley between 16th and 15th Street as usual.
