BUILDING A BETTER BEDFORD WEEKLY UPDATE, APRIL 20TH, 2018 STELLAR STREETSCAPE, LIMESTONE TRAIL CONNECTOR, AND FACADE RENOVATION PROJECTS; AND JOHN WILLIAMS BLVD/LINCOLN AVENUE ROUNDABOUT PROJECT Contact: Marla Jones Dan Kirk Director of Business & Community Development Street Commissioner (812) 275-1601 (812) 275-1631 mjones@bedford.in.us dkirk@bedford.in.us www.mybedfordonline.in.us STELLAR DOWNTOWN STREETSCAPE PROJECT Construction is underway to update the streetscape in downtown Bedford. Below is a list of activities that we anticipate happening over the next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the streetscape construction. Last week’s progress: • Storm sewer installation on 16th Street from J Street towards I Street (west half of block on the south side of the road). • Excavating and pouring footers for Edge Treatment on the south side 16th Street between J Street and I Street (west half of block). • Began installing block wall edge treatment on the south side 16th Street between J Street and I Street (west half of block). • Began sidewalk removal on the north side of 15th Street on the east half of the block. What to expect April 23rd thru April 28th: • Continue building block wall Edge Treatment on the south side of 16th Street from J Street to I Street (west half of block). • Continue sidewalk removal on the east half of 15th Street. • Setup for basement treatment in front of the Masonic Temple. Contractor will be conducting some removal around pipes inside the basement and preparing to construct the new basement wall prior to demolition. NOTE: Weather could affect some work activities and could cause delays. Customer Access: • On the south side of 16th Street from J Street to I Street: o From the Purdue Extension Office to J Street, access can be obtained at the SE corner of J & 16th Streets via the temporary walkway. o From the Courthouse Annex to I Street, the sidewalk is open. Parking/Traffic: • There will be no parking on the west half of 16th Street during construction of the west half of the block. • There will be no parking on the east half of 15th Street during construction of the east half of the block. • Eastbound US 50 (16th Street) and Westbound US 50 (15th Street) – The right lane will be closed from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM - MON thru SAT during construction. For 16th Street the lane closure configuration will start immediately west of J Street and continue through to the middle of the block between I Street and J Street. For 15th Street the lane closure configuration will start immediately east of I Street and continue through to the middle of the block between I Street and J Street. NOTE: (HANDRAIL STATUS) Handrail design submittals are currently being reviewed by the producer/manufacturer STELLAR LIMESTONE TRAIL CONNECTOR PROJECT Construction is underway on the Limestone Connector, connecting the Milwaukee Trail at 10th Street to the Downtown Streetscape & Courthouse Square via Lincoln Ave/L Street, 14th Street & 17th Street. Below is a list of activities that we anticipate happening over the next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the Limestone Trail construction. NOTE: Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Mon – Sat. Last week’s progress: • Continued pouring curb ramps at 14th Street and K Street • Placed Topsoil behind curb on 14th Street • Work resumed on 17th Street with grade corrections. Contractor built subgrade to new elevation from L Street to NAPA. • Began fire hydrant relocation at Lincoln Avenue and 10th Street SW corner of intersection. What to expect the week of April 23rd thru April 28th: • Finish pouring concrete curb ramps at 14th Street and K Street. • Begin construction of the curb ramp at the SE corner of 14th Street and Lincoln. In order to facilitate the construction of this ramp, the contractor will set up a lane shift on Lincoln Avenue moving traffic towards the west side of the road. Both lanes will remain open during the construction of this ramp. • Continue Trail construction on 17th Street from L Street to K Street. Forming and pouring sidewalk and rive approaches. • Replace and relocate fire hydrant at the SW corner of Lincoln Avenue and 10th Street. • Remove Limestone Wall on the west side of Lincoln Avenue at 10th Street. NOTE: Weather could affect and delay construction activities. Customer Access: • The sidewalk on the south side of 14th Street is closed. The contractor has maintained access to thru foot traffic along the west side of K Street and the north side of 14th Street. • The sidewalk on the north side of 17th Street is closed from L Street to K Street. The contractor has maintained access to thru foot traffic along the south side of 17th Street. • Both drives of the Methodist Church on 14th Street will be open by 14 April 2018 (Sat). • NAPA store on 17th Street access will be maintained. Drive access off of 17th Street is currently open. If the drive to NAPA off of 17th Street is closed for construction, access can be obtain via the alley way to the north or east side of the store. • The sidewalk on the west side of Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 12th Street will be closed. Pedestrian access will be maintained via the sidewalk on the east side of Lincoln Avenue from 10th Street to 12th Street. Parking/Traffic: • Parking is temporarily eliminated along the south side of 14th Street from L Street to J Street • The southbound lane of L Street from 10th Street to 12th Street will be restricted down to 10ft lanes during construction. Thru traffic will be maintained. • There will be a lane shift in place on L Street at 14th Street to facilitate ramp construction. STELLAR FAÇADE RENOVATION PROJECT Construction is underway for the Stellar Community Facades Renovation Project. Below is a list of activities we anticipate happening next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the Façades Renovation construction project. Last Week’s Progress- April 13 to April 20: • Grind and tuck-point at 1009 15th Street and demobilized • Finished mortar joints and tuck-point at 1501 J Street and demobilized • Continued work on mortar joint and tuck-point at 1501 J Street location • Mobilized and set up temporary fence, grind and tuck-point at 1016 16th Street location then demobilized • Mobilized grind and tuck-point at 1020 16th Street and demobilized • Mobilized on 1537 J Street, set up temporary fence and grind and tuck-point • Mobilized and set up temporary fence around site at 1536 I Street What to expect the week of April 20th thru April 26th • Finish tuck pointing at 1537 J Street location, build out downspout areas • Grind and tuck-point 1536 I Street and demobilize • Mobilize on 1526 I Street, set up temporary fence, and grind and tuck-point JOHN WILLIAMS BOULEVARD/LINCOLN AVENUE ROUNDABOUT PROJECT Construction is continuing for the John Williams Boulevard/Lincoln Avenue Roundabout. Below is a list of activities that we anticipate happening over the next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the construction project. Last Week’s Progress: • Completed the removal of the old road portion of John Williams Boulevard between Lincoln Avenue and “O” Street • Completed the infrastructure installation for Water Department • Completed the work on the new 9th Street exit onto John Williams Boulevard What to expect the week of April 23rd thru April 27th • Continuation of work on John Williams Boulevard with grading, storm structures and pipe, and fire hydrant relocation • Grading Dirt • Paving new entrance and west end of John Williams Boulevard • Lincoln Avenue and “O” Street thru traffic will continue to be open • The new intersection at IN-FAB will be open April 30th • The closure of Lincoln Avenue is still scheduled for May 1st If you would like to be added to the Building A Better Bedford Weekly Updates list serve, please send your email address to Debbi Andry at dandry@bedford.in.us.

WORK ACTIVITIES WILL BE CONDUCIVE WITH WORK THROUGHOUT THE WEEK CONTINUING CONSTRUCTION ON THE WEST HALF OF 16TH STREET AND EAST HALF OF 15TH STREET. Below is a list of activities that we anticipate happening over the next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the Limestone Trail construction. Last week’s progress: • The contractor finished removal of the sidewalk on 14th Street, from L Street to J Street. • Began to pour back the new sidewalk on 14th Street from L Street to K Street. • Installed Storm Sewer upgrades on 14th Street from L Street to J Street. • Removed sidewalk on 17th Street from L Street to K Street. • Tying in downspout drains to the new storm sewer on 14th Street from K Street to J Street. What to expect the week of March 26th thru March 31st • Finish removal of drives and sidewalk on 17th Street. Begin placing stone treatment to grade on 17th Street from K Street to L Street. • Continue pouring concrete sidewalk and curb on 14th Street from K Street to L Street. • Continue placing storm sewer pipe and downspout drain tie-ins on 14th Street from K Street to L Street. NOTE: With the possibility of rain in the early parts of next week, some work activities could be delayed. Customer Access: • The sidewalk on the south side of 14th Street is closed. The contractor has maintained access to through foot traffic along the west side of K Street. • Access to First United Methodist Church parking will be maintained off of 14th Street. The contractor will close one entrance at a time to perform concrete placement. • NAPA store on 17th Street access will be maintained. Drive access off of 17th Street is currently open. If the drive to NAPA off of 17th Street is closed for construction, access can be obtain via the alley way to the north or east side of the store. Parking: • Parking is temporarily eliminated along the south side of 14th Street from L Street to J Street. Below is a list of activities that we anticipate happening over the next week. A weekly update will be distributed during the remainder of the streetscape construction. Last week’s progress: • No work operations were conducted. What to expect March 26th thru March 31st • Construction activities will resume for the Streetscape project starting on 16th St from J St to I St. The contractor will mobilize equipment on Monday, 26 March. They will begin sidewalk demolition on the west half of 16th St starting at J St. The plan is to only construct one half of a block at a time to aid in business access. Customer Access: • Customer access is available throughout the project. Parking: • There will be no parking on the west half of 16th St during construction of the west half of the block.
